Achari Chanch/ Spicy Ghol / Buttermilk with Mango Pickle!

Salty buttermilk drink is another favorite summer drink in India. It helps to improve indigestion and cool down during the hot summer. It can be consumed throughout the year.

The buttermilk we get here from the supermarket is really thick and creamy. So to make a summer drink we need to add a good amount of chilled water. When you are making check your buttermilk consistency and add more or less water accordingly. Homemade buttermilk that is made from homemade curd or yogurt is usually not that thick, for that less water is needed to add. If you are making from the curd, adjust consistency how you like.

This is my husband's recipe. He loves salty buttermilk, but one day he added mango pickle and amazed me. That it was super yummy. For this recipe, you need a good sweet-spicy, and tangy store-bought mango pickle.

2 heaped tablespoons Sweet and Tangy Mango Pickle (Store Bought )

1 tablespoon Oil

1 teaspoon Mustard seeds

8 to 10 Curry Leaves

1 tablespoon Sugar

1 teaspoon Black Salt

4 cups of chilled Water

Some Ice Cubes

  • in a small frying pan heat tablespoon of oil and temper the oil with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

  • Add that tempered oil and curry leaves into the buttermilk.

  • Add mango pickle, sugar, black salt, and 3 cups water mix well.

  • Then mix again properly so that the buttermilk infuse with the aroma of curry leaves and mustard seeds.

  • Strain the buttermilk and separate all the curry leaves and mustard seeds, so that when you drink it does not come to your mouth.

  • Mix well with a wooden spoon before serving.

  • Add ice cubes to the serving glasses and pour the spicy salty buttermilk over it.

  • Enjoy Aam Achari Ghol/ Pickle buttermilk.
