Moist Orange Cake!

Writer's picture: Soma DasSoma Das

Orange cake is a delightful dessert that offers a refreshing citrus twist, making it perfect for any occasion, whether it's a casual get-together or a special celebration. Its light, moist texture combined with the zesty flavor of fresh oranges provides a balance of sweetness and tanginess that appeals to a wide range of taste buds. This is one of my favorite cake!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened or vegetable oil

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp orange extract

  • Zest of 1 orange

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice

  • Candy Orange for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line with parchment paper.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the orange extract and orange zest.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients and  orange juice to the butter mixture. Mix it until just combined. Don’t over mix.

  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

  •  Sprinkle some powder sugar over the cake and garnish with candy orange if desired.

Enjoy your homemade orange cake!
